Cinematic journey through the Old and New World

Mundus founder Sjahin During was born in Amsterdam, grew up in Istanbul and on the Dutch North Sea island of Texel. He made history with such ensembles as Tarhana, Arifa and Namibian Tales. The nimble mastery of his percussion, matches the fluency of his contact with other music cultures. In the Mundus Quartet we encounter four virtuosos on the crossroads between the Old and New World. They spin evocative improvisations from the music traditions of the Silk Road, the Mediterranean, the Balkans and Brazil. With this cinematic journey the Mundus Quartet evokes a world that has passed, while at the same time a beckoning perspective giving voice to irresistible soundscapes.
