Mary Halvorson is seen as the innovator of the jazz guitar. She avoids clichés and creates her own style, subtly distorting the sound of her semi-acoustic guitar with electronic effects. With the band Code Girl she presents her idiosyncratic songs, which offer a lot of room for original twists and improvisations. Singer Amirtha Kidambi and singer/saxophonist María Grand play central roles in the group. The other members are each known for their unique musical vision. Trumpeter Adam O'Farrill has experience with everything from Latin jazz to electro-acoustic music. Mary Halvorson previously formed the Thumbscrew trio with double bassist Michael Formanek and drummer Tomas Fujiwara.
