Toronto-based pianist Mario Romano leads a band that features some of the top jazz players in Canada, with on tenor sax Pat LaBarbera, known for his long collaboration with Elvin Jones, and Roberto Occhipinti on double bass, who visited here earlier with the Hilario Durán Trio. Completing the band are trumpeter William Sperandei, who studied in New Orleans, and the young New York based drummer Mark McLean. The group plays music from their new CD Fenyrose. ‘Romano’s playing is elegant and understated, sometimes driving, sometimes effortlessly languid, all in service to his novel arrangements’ (Whole Note Magazine).
