The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, ‘the best, most versatile and swinging big band in the Netherlands’ (AD) plays compositions by Dutch jazz millennials: young, prominent musicians who have previously played with the big band, but who have now been asked to write a composition – without playing along. Including Reinier Baas, Joris Roelofs, Ben van Gelder, Simin Tander, Maartje Meijer, Morris Kliphuis and Lars Dietrich. For years, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw has been performing regularly at the BIMHUIS. With concerts with diverse soloists from Misha Mengelberg to Chris Potter and from Wolter Wierbos to Tom Harrell, the orchestra has developed itself into the jazz program of the Concertgebouw and has become the “headliner” on many international stages and festivals. The orchestra also worked with greats such as Chick Corea, Branford Marsalis, Toots Thielemans, Roy Hargrove, Christian Scott and José James. The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw received raving reviews and a Edison for their latest album Crosscroads. “Smooth and glowing roaring Jazz Orchestra.” **** (NRC about Crossroads)
