James Farm might consist of four successful jazz musicians, it remains a true band in which no one is the boss. Joshua Redman, Aaron Parks, Matt Penman and Eric Harland share a fascination for songs with structure and groove. Accessible at first, but eventually full of surprising twists and turns, moving between jazz, rock, classical, folk and ambient. James Farm has been active for a decade now, selling out several shows at BIMHUIS and Muziekgebouw in previous years. The four musicians are unified in their ambitions. They strive, in their own words ‘to make new musical connections for the times we live in, and make new beats for what now surrounds us. To take some chances and try some things that go beyond what you would typically hear or do in an acoustic jazz quartet.’
