From Rhapsody in Blue to Porgy & Bess: after 100 years the typically American music of George Gershwin still stands its ground, also in these new versions for a unique line-up: vocals, string quartet and jazz orchestra. The outstanding voice of Fay Claassen, who recently won two Edison awards, is joined with the Matangi Quartet and the versatile Millennium Orchestra led by conductor and arranger Joan Reinders. His new versions  are packed with contemporary grooves and surprising twists. Alongside many well-known Broadway tunes there will be lesser known gems as well. Heavy big abnd sounds are alternated with fragile strings and beautiful ballads. Either joyfully recognizable or as if you’re listening to something brand new. ‘The sounds and repertory of the Millennium Jazz Orchestra are unique within the big band world’ (Jazzenzo). ‘It’s hard not to lose yourself praising the music of Fay Claassen. She knows how to reach the heart with her wonderful, clean and meaningful tone of voice’ (Edison jury report, 2018). The Matangi Quartet has ‘fleshed out into a quartet with a harmonious, homogenous sound and an original soul’ (de Volkskrant).
