Jules Deelder is 75! With Deelder & Van der Lek he connects good stories and poems with catchy music that refers to a glorious jazz history. Deelder is not only a poet but also a drummer, DJ and jazz coinnaisseur. He’s generally known for his prose and poetry (as one of the bestselling poets in the Netherlands). Aside from that was also part of jazz groups such as Trio Me Reet, De Deeldeliers and Deelder & Van der Lek, and he has collaborated with New Cool Collective. He has released award-winning jazz compilation albums and as a DJ he spins the most exciting records from his gigantic collection. For more than 30 years, Deelder regularly performs with Boris van der Lek, best known as tenor saxophonist with Herman Brood and Golden Earring. Fewer people know that at a young age he already toured as a co-headliner with big league tenor players such as Arnett Cobb and Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison. Legendary Blue Note producer Rudy van Gelder praised him by saying: ‘You sound like a giant from the fifties!’ In Deelder & Van der Lek he plays with seasoned musicians from, among others, The Beau Hunks. Special guest at the BIMHUIS is alto saxophonist Benjamin Herman.
