Together with singular Dutch guitarist Reinier Baas, the big band of the Amsterdam conservatory creates new music that isn’t about jazz or rock, riff or runs. It’s about the beauty humankind is most capable of when boldly advancing in pursuit of emotional expressiveness. This message permeates their new collaborative album Beyond the Sum of All Parts. The recording embodies the here and now of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Jazz Department and documents the innovative and inclusive momentum that the city of Amsterdam is experiencing right now. The Conservatorium van Amsterdam Concert Big Band consists of 18 of the most talented students of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. The lineup reflects the international spirit of the institution that is housing more than 57 nationalities. The band invites national and international guest soloists on a regular basis, such as Jesse van Ruller, Dick Oatts, Terell Stafford, Seamus Blake, and David Linx, among others. This time the band is joining forces with guitarist and composer Reinier Baas, himself a CvA graduate and now a force to be reckoned within Dutch jazz.
