The Brokken festival has become an annual tradition: on the Sunday afternoon inbetween Christmas and New Year, Corrie van Binsbergen presents her own festival at the BIMHUIS. This edition offers more surprises, with many short performances. A broad variety of solo appearances, for instance: Scarlatti sonatas and instant composing on piano, a young singer-songwriter and a seasoned jazz vocalist experimenting with electronics. A laureate poet and a recently graduated spoken word artist. A boundary-shifting violin player. Also, two young jazz ensembles with talented band leaders will and two experienced guest soloists, who will appear with various acts. Guitarist Corrie van Binsbergen presents this annual festival for open-minded audiences. A festival that will open your ears and broaden your horizon, with a wide variety of styles in short performances, bringing together young talents and remarkable outsiders with established musicians, alternating hyper-energy with stillness and beauty. ‘An explorative feast’, says Van Binsbergen. ‘For over three hours a variety of artists appear in almost every possible genre. What they share is their high quality, for which Van Binsbergen obviously has a good nose. A festival with an overwhelming amount of musical creativity’ (Draai om je oren).
