Afro Vibes Festival makes room for new voices from South Africa, starting with theatre maker Gabrielle Goliath and her performance Elegy. Goliath uses the classical form of lamentation, a ritual for grieving where multiple female singers follow each other’s voices continuously. Elegy reflects on the unpleasant reality of rape culture in South Africa, the persistent violence against women and LGBTQI+-ers.

With over 11.000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Bongeziwe Mabandla became the ambassador of Afro Folk. This South African singer-songwriter has a unique sound, melting Xhosa lyrica with traditional music and contemporary singing and guitar. His debut album Umlilo positioned him firmly on the international map, and with the follow-up he won a South African Music Award (SAMA).This fall his third album Zange releases.

The Afro Vibes Festival takes place from October 3 till October 13 on various locations in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht.
