Korea Focus in the BIMHUIS
The Netherlands and South Korea have had a good diplomatic relationship for 60 years. This is celebrated, especially because a 60th anniversary, or Hwangap, is very important in Korean culture. In October, for example, Dutch musicians perform at the Jarasum Jazz Festival in South Korea. In the same month, the BIMHUIS will be devoted to Korea Focus for two days, featuring five Korean bands.
The first on the program is Black String. The band Black String from Seoul developed their own style on traditional instruments, sometimes quiet and sometimes overwhelming. The foursome is led by Yoon Jeong Heo, renowned for her innovative playing on the stringed instrument geomungo. She previously worked with bassist Mark Dresser, who calls her a brilliant improviser. In Black String, acoustic instruments, electric guitar and electronics merge into an enchanting whole.
