The winner of the BIM Podium Prijs 2019 will be revealed during this special edition of BIMLAB, full of surprising improvisations. Master of ceremonies: Ernst Glerum. This 40th edition of BIMLAB is a festive one, opening with the annunciation of the winner of the BIM Podium Prize 2019, hosted by ‘master of ceremonies’ Ernst Glerum. The BIM is the professional union of improving musicians in The Netherlands. The BIM Podium Prijs of two thousand euros is a special prize for a small jazz organisation out in the province, given out by the BIM musicians. It is meant as a support for the organisation and a demonstration to keep the music and its audience alive and kicking. Each BIMLAB is like a surprise date between two BIM members, who will invite musicians for a night full of short sessions. Ud player Haytham Safia and double bassist Wilbert de Joode will curate this 40th  edition. Haytham Safia was born in the village of Kofir Yaseef in Northern Galilee. He moved to Europe looking for cross-cultural challenges. His playing on ud, the Arabic lute, is simultaneously virtuoso, experimental and adventurous. . Wilbert de Joode has developed his own distinctive double bass sound, partly through the use of gut strings. De Joode is acclaimed as a powerful free spirit who continues to explore and take risks.
