When it comes to jazz drumming, Bill Stewart has been at the forefront for over thirty years. He recently formed a new trio under his own name, with contemporary Larry Grenadier on double bass and the younger tenor saxophonist Walter Smith III. Due to their mastery Stewart is given plenty of space to shape his own compositions. Their recent album Band Menu sounds modest and melodic on the one hand, and inventive and rich on the other.
