Bill Stewart

When it comes to jazz drumming, Bill Stewart has been at the forefront for over thirty years. He recently formed a new trio under his own name, with contemporary Larry Grenadier on double bass and the younger tenor saxophonist Walter Smith III. Due to their mastery Stewart is given plenty of space to shape his own compositions. Their recent album Band Menu sounds modest and melodic on the one hand, and inventive and rich on the other.

Previous performances at BIMHUIS

Bill Stewart has performed many times at the BIMHUIS in the successful bands of guitarist John Scofield. He also played here in the organ trio with Larry Goldings and Peter Bernstein, in Chris Potter's band, but also twice before with his own trio. He knows Larry Grenadier from the bands of Scofield and Pat Metheny. Grenadier is best known from the Brad Mehldau Trio. Walter Smith III played with Roy Haynes and Ambrose Akinmusire, among others.
