Benjamin Herman has an well-known obsession for Japanese culture. In Tokyo he met pianist Mayuko Katakura, with whom he shares another passion: jazz in the ‘straight ahead’ tradition. Of course this is right up the alley of Benjamin’s trio, featuring double bassist Thomas Pol and drummer Joost Patocka. Buckle up and have a blast! Mayuko Katakura learned the tools of the trade from piano greats such as Kenny Barron, on famous jazz breeding grounds Berklee and Julliard. In Japan she has already released seven albums under her own name. For her to come over to The Netherlands is exceptional, especially in times like these, where Benjamin had to postpone several other projects with Japanese musicians.
