Airelle Besson

Trumpeter Airelle Besson is praised for her clear, powerful sound. She has already won several major music awards in her home country of France. On her recent album Try! it is good to hear that she has been playing with her current band for five years; the music sounds spontaneous and accessible. The Swedish singer Isabel Sörling plays an important role in this with her wordless vocals, interspersed with song lyrics.

Airelle Besson started playing the trumpet at a very young age and was taught by Wynton Marsalis, Pierre Gillet and Kato Havas, among others. She has previously been part of prestigious international groups, including the Liberation Music Orchestra of Charlie Haden and Carla Bley. She has also played with legends such as Michel Portal, Manu Katché and Philip Catherine, and with younger greats such as Avishai Cohen, Greg Hutchinson and José James.
