Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra: Myth & Mankind – Alcestis

As part of a series of concerts themed around classical mythology, the RCO, conducted by François-Xavier Roth and with the soprano Anna Lucia Richter, dedicate an evening to female characters from classical antiquity, carried to modern memory by the playwright Euripides. The focus is on Alcestis, whose story of self-sacrifice inspired composers including Lully, Händel and Gluck. We also cross paths with Phaedra and Elektra, as written about by Rameau and Mozart. This concert is held at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
