Fazil Say

Master pianist Fazil Say is an all-rounder. He composes, writes, and researches old and new Turkish music, all over the world, in all kinds of genres. All the while he continues to discover and learn. For example, he had never played about half of Beethoven's sonatas before recording them in 2020. Today he plays Beethoven's Fourteenth Sonata, known as the Moonlight Sonata.

Say also plays Schubert's monumental Piano Sonata No. 21 , written shortly before his death. There are sometimes succinct silences in this moving work, which give lyrical and contemplative passages extra power. This concert opens with a new composition by Say, followed by Handel's Fourth Suite, from which the Sarabande in particular is a crowd favourite.
