Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw & Cappella Amsterdam – Mendelssohn’s St Paul oratorio

Aged 20, Felix Mendelssohn organised a revival performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion in 1829. Ardent about the oratorios of Bach and Händel, he made a plea to reinvigorate the genre, and put his money where his mouth was with his own oratorio, first performed in 1836. Daniel Reuss conducts.
