Impressionistic choral songs

Also on the program are Claude Debussy's Trois Chansons, impressionistic choral songs that breathe a medieval atmosphere. The texts date from the 15th century! Ton de Leeuw's Prière is of a very different nature: meditative music, characterized by sober musical means. De Leeuw based this piece on a prayer text from the Koran. Francis Poulenc's Un soir de neige sings of both an inner sense of peace and the desolate prospect of life under occupation during the Second World War.

For the first time, MUSA is conducted by Wiecher Mandemaker, conductor of the Laurenscantorij, the Laurens Collegium Rotterdam and the Rotterdam Symphony Chorus. He is also a principal subject teacher of choral conducting at Codarts and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

Vocal Ensemble MUSA was founded in 2005 and consists of ambitious singers who like to take on musical challenges. To realize this, MUSA provides an environment in which music is played at a high level. Quality, intensity and enthusiasm are central to this. MUSA organizes varied concerts with highlights from choral literature, but also with music that is rarely heard on the Dutch concert stages. Visit the MUSA website for more information about the choir.
