Martin Kohlstedt

German composer, keyboardist and producer Martin Kohlstedt established his name with two linked albums: Tag (from 2012) and Nacht (from 2014). Kohlstedt fuses classical grand pianos, synthesizers and electronics in his live performances. The result is music that stands in the neoclassical tradition of composers such as Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds. His album FLUR was released at the end of 2020, on which Martin Kohlstedt fully embraces the ambiguity of his artistry – ratio versus feeling.

On the album Flur , Kohlsted tried to capture the here and now. Alone, behind his piano, at home. Free from outside influences, guided purely by his own intuition. “There was something in me waiting to come out. I thought I was empty, but I had so much in me waiting to come out." The pieces on FLUR are therefore not 'composed', but are the result of when Martin Kohlstedt 'let go of everything'. Thanks to the benefactors of the Classic Pop Fund.
