Clair-Obscur

VeNUS also sings compositons by Poulenc, De Leeuw and Messiaen. Just before the Second World War, Poulenc wrote his Quatre Motets pour un temps de penitence and Messiaen O Sacrum Convivium! And immediately afterwards De Leeuw composed Prière. This era is reflected in the compositions in many ways. Poulenc's sharp contrasts in color and dynamics have forward-looking inexorability. Messiaen's intensely drawn lines reach beyond the boundaries of our time and De Leeuw starts a new beginning with his hopeful, radiant Prière. A concert with an intense play of light and shadow.
