Jerusalem Quartet

The quartet plays Mozart’s String Quartet in D Minor – written, according to anecdote, while his wife Constanze was in labour with their first child in the room next door – and Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 2, which betray the composer’s fascination with Jewish folk melodies and particularly contemporary klezmer styles. Erwin Schulhoff’s suite Five Pieces for String Quartet is also on the programme.
