The Chinese pianist Yuja Wang is praised for her electrifying, spontaneous playing, brilliance and glamour. Born in Beijing, she has been playing on the major world stages since she was a teenager. She often perfroms intensely virtuoso pieces with a lot of orchestral spectacle. But she also has another side, which was featured on the Grammy award-winning album The Berlin Recital. 'In my recitals, I often do something different than people expect of me,' she said in preparation for a new solo concert. 'I then make more of an inner journey, with intimate works.' Tonight, this journey leads audiences through works by Beethoven, Schönberg, Ligeti, Scriabin, Albéniz and Kapustin.
