Collegium 1704 – San Giovanni Battista

Alessandro Stradella, a contemporary of Corelli, wrote this sweeping oratorio about John the Baptist’s end at Herod’s court as brought about by Salome demanding his head. The arias, expressive, artful and full of contrasts, are performed by soprano Giulia Semenzato as Salome, mezzosoprano Lucile Richardot as her mother, countertenor Christophe Dumaux as John the Baptist, bass Krešimir Stražanac as Herod and tenor Krystian Adam.
