From Café De Pont, your guide Adri Doorneveld will take you on an early-morning bike ride through Amsterdam Noord, with birds as the theme. You’ll start off in the Vogelbuurt (‘bird neighbourhood’), where all the streets are named after birds. It’s an area of beautiful Amsterdam School architecture, around a hundred years old. Then via the picturesque villages of Nieuwendam and Schellingwoude, you’ll come to the former fishing village of Durgerdam. Here a warden from the national conservation agency Staatsbosbeheer will take you to see nesting birds, and teach you about the local flora and fauna.
During the tour, you’ll visit the villages of rural Amsterdam Noord, and learn about their history. This part of Amsterdam, Landelijk Noord (‘Rural North’) is the area north of the A10 ring road, comprising the villages of Zunderdorp, Ransdorp, Holysloot and Durgerdam in a characteristic Dutch landscape of pasture bordered by water channels.
Programme is subject to change. Please be aware that capacity is limited.
