Were the sanctions effective
Several European countries announced sanctions against Saudi Arabia. Denmark suspended its arms export to the country. In January 2019, the UN launched a special investigation into the murder of Khashoggi.
Almost a year later, it seems that the killing of Khashoggi has fallen into oblivion and the relationship with Saudi Arabia has begun to normalize: both the famous Dakar Rally and the G20 summit will be relocated to Saudi Arabia in 2020. In the meantime, the Saudi regime started a manhunt for activists and journalists in Europe and North America.
On the 1st of October, we look at the consequences of the murder that shook the world. We talk to Yahya Ibrahim Assiri (human rights activist), Omaima Al Najjar (blogger and activist) and others about the legacy of Khashoggi and the impact of his murder on the relationship between the West and Saudi Arabia. There will be a panel discussion and time for audience questions
