From Harvey Weinstein to Isabel dos Santos, the rich and powerful are increasingly turning to lawsuits to block accountability. The result is a new form of privatised censorship: Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs)

Sued into Silence will tell the stories of those victimised by this legal intimidation. Through interviews, video testimonials and visual displays we will explore how the problem manifests itself across the continent, how it affects the way reporters and activists operate – and what exactly we can do to fight back.

Featuring Matthew Caruana Galizia, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who faced SLAPPs while fighting for justice for his mother Daphne; Caoilfhionn Gallagher QC, an international human rights lawyer who has defended SLAPP victims around the world; Lorena Ruiz-Huerta, a Greenpeace lawyer and former spokesperson to the Spanish party Podemos.

Admission to the event is free but we ask that participants register in advance using
