Stéphanie Saadé: The Travels of Here and Now

French-Lebanese artist Stéphanie Saadé's installation The Travels of Here was inspired by the 18th-century wallpaper paintings by Jurriaan Andriessen, which were originally painted for Drakensteyn Castle in Lage Vuursche. The paintings depict Mediterranean scenes rich in history. For Saadé, the paintings represent literal and metaphorical journeys, both of the paintings themselves and for where they take visitors captured by their charms. Saadé’s installation considers notions of identity, displacement, alienation and nostalgia.
