Ruis! Frans Hals, Anders

Frans Hals broke with conventions when it came to portraiture. Not only did he paint more freely and loosely than his contemporaries – and in the process inspired generations of young artists to do the same – but also challenged who could be painted. This exhibition brings together an exuberant and diverse set of paintings using noise, caricature, irony and the grotesque with an emphasis on both utopian and dystopian images.
