Restricted Images

Restricted Images is a collaboration between Patrick Waterhouse and the Warlukurlangu Art Centre. The works were made in the remote Aboriginal communities of Yuendumu and Nyirripi in Central Australia. It was here that Patrick photographed people and landscapes returning the prints to the communities to amend via painting. The works take The Native Tribes of Central Australia publication as their starting point. Published in 1899, the book set a new standard for anthropological photography but the authors were oblivious to the impact they would have on the lives of the Aboriginals and the cult
