Podoconiosis, in Ethiopia locally known as "Mossy Foot" disease, is a disease caused by walking barefoot walking on vulcanic soils. The name Mossy Foot derives from the mossy foot appearance of patients with the disease. The disease is caused by irritant clay soils and microparticles penetrating the skin, causing oedema and secundary infection with micro-organisms. People with this disease are often stigmatized, just like patients with leprosy. However, it is a treatable disease and 100% preventable. This photo-exhibition is organised by the OLVG hospital, AMC hospital and the Albert Schweitzer Foundation.
