The fascination for taste and bad taste

Arends' work stems from a fascination for taste and bad taste; the balance between stylish monumental objects and somewhat playful characteristic images. At first glance, her work may seem flat, but if you look closely you will be surprised. The work is layered where you don't expect it and flat where it seems to have depth.

About Noah Arends

Noah Arends (1996) is an artist from Utrecht. Her work is a convergence of fashion (photography) and visual arts. She makes sculptures and paintings of textiles using collage techniques that have their origin in fashion photography, but are abstracted in such a way that only the form, texture and color of that origin remains. This creates autonomous images whose interplay between the natural and the artificial world, the two-dimensional and three-dimensional, surprises the viewer.
