Re-evaluation of women's roles
Schoorel focuses in particular on Louisa Willet-Holthuysen, the collector who gave the building, with its completely newly furnished interiors in the French Neo-Louis XVI style, to the municipality in 1895 with the order to turn it into a museum.
Through her art, Schoorel takes on the role of Willet-Holthuysen, exploring her passion for animals and nature. Schoorel also connects her with another female museum founder from that time, Sophia Lopez Suasso-de Bruijn, who laid the foundations for the Stedelijk Museum. In this way, Schoorel offers a reinterpretation and re-evaluation of the role of women in art, then and now.
