Type specimens

This experimental style resulted in extravagantly ornate letters and graphic forms influenced by Japanese calligraphy. It wasn’t just the letterforms that pushed boundaries but also printing processes which could include up 12 colours. Art Nouveau artists like Otto Eckmann, Eugène Grasset and George Auriol were commissioned to create contemporary type designs, many presented to printers in luxury catalogues. See some of them including French, German and Dutch type specimens and catalogues.
