Some contemporary Cobra artists are strongly influenced by the images and paintings they see and have the urge to see more of the world. Sometimes out of a genuine deeper interest in other parts of the world, and sometimes with completely wrong expectations, artists such as Asger Jorn, Corneille and Anton Rooskens have travelled to parts of North Africa. Whilst, Asger Jorn, among others, even decided to live there for a longer period of time.
Many of these artists process the impressions that they have gained through their travels in their paintings, sculptures and written works. Whilst others try to capture the landscape on canvas. Studying an environment and culture that is so different from Western European helps them to further shape their ideas and philosophy about art. The works in the exhibition come from the Cobra Museum collection.
