Cimarron

Cimarron is the latest chapter in photographer Charles Fréger’s ongoing series of vibrant portraits. Where his previous two series focused on mythical wild men in wintery Europe, and festival costume in Rural Japan, Cimarron documents extravagant masquerades across the Americas. Many of the masquerades hark back to slavery and most of the participants are descendants of African slaves, but the resulting images are celebratory, beautiful and engaging.
