Drag queen and pop singer Pabllo Vittar exploded onto the scene in 2014 in her home country of Brazil, singing a Whitney Houston song on a local television channel. Her popularity grew explosively in the following years by uploading covers of pop songs on YouTube. In 2017 she released her first, self-written album "Vai Passar Mal". In 2018 her second album "Não Para Não’ followed. Her distinctive, musical style sounds like a cheerful mix of pop, jungle, house and Brazilian music with both English and Portuguese lyrics. The only 24-year old talent has worked with major pop stars such as Charli XCX, Major Lazor and Diplo in recent years, was nominated for a Latin Grammy, won an MTV Europe Music Award and has billions of streams on YouTube and Spotify. With almost 10 million followers on Instagram and 6 million subscribers on YouTube, Pabllo Vittar is also the world's most followed drag queen. BrazilBrazil is one of the most dangerous countries in the world for LGBTQ's. Last year, the extreme right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro came to power with a large majority of 55% of the votes. Bolsonaro regularly threatens the gay community in Brazil: he said, among other things, that homosexuality is a result of drug use, he compares homosexuality with pedophilia and said that he "would rather see my son die in a car accident than coming out as gay ". Partly because of this, the current living situation in Brazil for members of the LGBTQ+ community is very unsafe: 420 LGBTQ+ people were murdered in 2018 and anti-gay violence is very common on the streets.
