In addition to the museum, the Witsenhuis offers temporary accommodation for writers. The Dutch writer Marga Minco lived here from 1949 to 1970. Later occupants of the house include the writers Jan Kal and Thomas Rosenboom. In his story “Verliefdheid” (Being in love), Dutch writer Nescio portrayed the main character as living in the Witsenhuis.
The Witsen house contains a grand hall and the original studio where Willem Witsen worked on his paintings, etchings and photography, also known as the Witsenkamer. The house features paintings by Witsen’s contemporaries, as well as furniture and wallpaper designed by T. Nieuwenhuis. The Witsenhuis receives visitors only by written request.
