Maatschappij Arti et Amicitiae (art society)

Maatschappij Arti et Amicitiae is a society for the arts, founded in 1839. This association unites visual artists and art lovers at an impressive building on the Rokin in the centre of Amsterdam. The building houses private meeting areas for the society that date back to the 19th century, as well as monumental exhibition spaces. The interior design was done by architect Berlage.

The society’s aim is to support the interests of the artists, as well as to promote the arts as a whole. The society now has roughly 1550 members, about 550 of which are artists. The additional members are art lovers and supporters of the arts. Through the year, Maatschappij Arti et Amicitiae exhibits work from its members, with a special focus on new members at the beginning of each year.
