A drummer, a pianist and a bassist take you to New York, to the first half of the 20th century. Little Thelonious is looking over the shoulder of his older sister to the piano keyboard, getting totally enamored by the instrument. What follows is a rollercoaster of meetings, jam sessions, success and a portion of bad luck. We follow headstrong genius Thelonious Monk on his capricious journey, creating whimsical music full of surprising harmonies and adventurous rhythms. It couldn’t stop him from becoming The High Priest of Jazz, wit many standards to his name. Live music and video mapping involve you in Thelonious’ experimental urges, showing you many sides of this fascinating musician. Destination unknown, but a wild ride guaranteed! Featuring Simon Segers, Fulco Ottervanger and Lieven Van Pée of jazz trio De Beren Gieren. Zonzo Comapgnie previously scored a hit with Mile(s)tones, about another jazz legend, Miles Davis. A production by Zonzo Compagnie, in co-production with Handelsbeurs, Krokusfestival, KAAP en De Grote Post. Supported by Franders and the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
