What is a still life? It is a painting on which you can see food, for example. In the 17th century, a great many of these were made. In Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot there are several still lifes with food on them. Peacock pasties, wine, oysters, olives, salt and pepper, you can see it all. Mostly food for grown-ups, in fact. During this workshop, we are going to make a still life with good food for kids: chips, croquettes, apple sauce, cheese soufflés, milkshakes… And everything you like.

First we go and investigate the castle. There you will discover what you have to pay attention to when you make a still life. Then we’ll go to the castle’s studio to get cracking. Would you like to join us?

  • This workshop is suitable for kids between 6-12 years old.
  • All materials are already in the castle. The (bilingual) museum teacher helps the kids.
