Best hot chocolate spots

Your favourite childhood cold-weather drink has gotten a major makeover. The Dutch know a thing or two about decadent winter treats, so it is no surprise that the Amsterdam Area is home to some of the world’s best hot chocolatiers. Check out our top spots for hot cocoa and warm up with a steamy mug of chocolatey goodness. May your cup runneth over (with whipped cream).

Pompadour

Pompadour’s ready-to-eat treats and cosy, old-world interior gives you the perfect place to kick back with a cuppa — hot chocolate, that is. Pair it with a tasty croissant, a mini-cake or, better yet, more chocolate and, as the Dutch say, “Geniet ervan,” — enjoy!

Hotel Spaander

You can find Hotel Spaander on the banks of the IJssel Lake just outside of Amsterdam in the traditional fishing village of Volendam. The Spaander began in 1881 as a meeting point for artists, later becoming a kind of mini-museum to proudly display their works. The tradition is still going strong, so enjoy the view, the art, and, of course, a big mug of the chocolatey good stuff.

Concertgebouw Café

Situated on a busy corner in the heart of Amsterdam’s museum district, the Concertgebouw Café (Café Viotta) is the perfect place to take a break from a busy day of sightseeing and wind down with their delightfully rich version of hot chocolate.
