Admire impressive industrial skylines

Your route starts from Zaandam station and follows the scenic course of the Zaan River for as much as possible. As you pedal along the old river dykes you can admire the former villas of wealthy manufacturers, while in the small streets you can still see the old-fashioned workers' houses.

Have lunch at the Verkade biscuit factory

During your bike ride you will pass the Verkade biscuit factory which is well worth a visit. Here you can learn lots of fascinating information about the history of the building and fun facts about chocolate or simply enjoy a delicious lunch with a view over the water.

Visit the Czaar Peter House

A little further along you will find the Czaar Peter House, one of the oldest wooden houses in the Netherlands and the second oldest museum (after the Teylers Museum in Haarlem). Explore this world-famous building and find out about what the Russian Tsar Peter the Great got up to during his stay here in 1697.

Enjoy drinks at a chic industrial complex

After seeing all those beautiful buildings you are probably ready to relax. Cycle a bit further up the route until you reach the HEMbrug Terrain, a renovated industrial area that’s home to a wealth of terrace bars, exhibition spaces and eateries. You’ll find plenty of spots to have a drink and rest your legs.
