Learn about iconic buildings

Rooie DondersIn the centre of Almere, you’ll find a wealth of iconic buildings designed by world-famous architects all located in one square kilometre. View and photograph them all by following this Architecture Route (in Dutch) or pick up a copy in English from the VVV Almere Tourist Info. You’ll also find some more information about cycling in Almere here.

Just outside of the centre, Almere Poort and Almere Haven are also home to several architectural gems which are well worth visiting. If you’re interested to learn more, book a tour with a professional guide who will take you around the sights.

Unwind in natural surroundings

After all those impressive cityscapes, you are probably ready for some peace and quiet. Fortunately, you don't have to go far to find that in Almere. Hop on your bike again and cycle to the Oostvaardersplassen Nature Reserve. You’ll have a view of the largest wetland nature area in the Netherlands from the Natuurbelevingcentrum de Oostvaarders (Nature Experience Centre).

Go bird-watching

Once you've got the bug for bird-watching, continue along to the Lepelaarsplassen - a real bird paradise that’s home to more than 300 species. Enter into a different world as you walk amongst the reedy marshes and grasslands dotted with willow trees and blackberry bushes. From the De Lepelaar Observation Hut, you’ll have the best view of the Grote Plas and its surrounding forest.
