Jozias van Aartse
Jozias van Aartse became the new acting mayor of Amsterdam after the death of former mayor Eberhard van der Laan. The King’s Commissioner, who heads the provincial government, appoints an acting mayor if it is known in advance that a municipality is to be without a mayor for longer than three months. Deputy mayor, Alderperson Kajsa Ollongren, had taken over the mayor’s duties after the death of van der Laan on 5 October, but left the post at the end of October to become Minister of the Interior at The Hague. Mayor van der Laan passed away on 5 October 2017.
