The site currently attracts approximately 11 million visitors every year and is experiencing rapid growth. In order to continue to meet the changing needs of its visitors, the website has been completely redesigned. A major feature of the new design is the widespread use of large, attractive images to help showcase Amsterdam in all its glory.
One-stop-shop for cultural information
The new website features an improved overview of cultural activities in the city, providing an exhaustive source of information for residents and tourists looking to get out and about in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. Entitled Uit in Amsterdam, the Dutch section of the website now more clearly aligns with the requirements of Dutch city residents and visitors from elsewhere in the Netherlands. Early in 2015, the cultural agenda information produced by the Amsterdams Uitburo will also be incorporated into the website, further cementing its position as the first port of call for a day out in and around Amsterdam.
Less structure to increase clarity
The website consists of more than 10,000 articles, so tags are now used to help visitors to find what they are looking for. Relevant tags are linked to each article, allowing website visitors to quickly and easily personalise their selection.
Ease of use on all screen sizes
The entire website is responsive, meaning that it automatically resizes to fit on the user’s screen. As such, the redesigned website allows optimal user experience irrespective of whether the visitor is using a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer. An associated benefit is that international visitors can continue to gain easy access to the website after they have arrived in Amsterdam by using portable devices.
The new website was designed by Frog and built by Axendo. The website’s primary languages are English and Dutch, while relevant information is also offered in French, German, Spanish and Italian. In addition to the website, I amsterdam is also enjoying widespread popularity on social media. The organisation currently has in excess of 600,000 Facebook fans and more than 72,000 Twitter followers.
