Amsterdam Marketing CEO Frans van der Avert commented on the announcement: “As the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area’s city marketing organisation, we’re very honoured to have been nominated. These are the Oscars of the tourism industry and as such, the nomination is confirmation that innovation is intertwined in Amsterdam’s DNA.”
The two nominated projects are ‘Amsterdam Bezoeken, Holland Zien’ (‘Visit Amsterdam, See Holland’) and ‘Key Figures: Amsterdam as a convention destination’. The awards ceremony will take place on 28 January 2015 in Madrid. Boudewijn Bokdam, Project Manager at Amsterdam Marketing: “The aim of the ‘Amsterdam Bezoeken, Holland Zien’ project is to effectively distribute visitors to Amsterdam over the entire Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. Since 2009, the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area has been promoted as a single, united, varied destination. Research has indicated that an increasing number of international visitors are heading out of the city to explore the surrounding region. This has had a positive knock-on effect on employment in the tourism industry in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.” A collaboration between the City Region of Amsterdam, 27 municipalities and two provinces in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, the project is coordinated by Amsterdam Marketing.
“‘Key Figures: Amsterdam as a convention destination’ is our means of expanding the target group for our statistics, by stimulating involvement and making the data less complex,” says Olivier Ponti, Manager of Research at Amsterdam Marketing. As such, the project straddles the boundaries of technology, research and design. Ponti: “We are helping to give statistics a human face, which in turn contributes to improving the transparency of our management processes.”
