Expatcenter offers Start-up Visa from 1 January 2015

The Expatcenter Amsterdam is very pleased to announce that as of 1 January 2015, a new visa will exist for ambitious entrepreneurs looking to start a company in the Netherlands. As of that date the Expatcenter is also able to grant the Start-up Visa if the applicable conditions are met.

A temporary residence permit will be available for 'start-up' entrepreneurs, offering them the opportunity to start an innovative business over the course of a year. The start-up must be guided by an experienced facilitator in the Netherlands and meet a set of pre-defined criteria. After one year, the start-up entrepreneur can extend his residence permit on the basis of the scheme for “self-employment”.

On 7 December it was announced that Neelie Kroes, whose term as European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda ended last month, will take up a new role as the Netherlands Special Envoy for start-ups. The new role’s aim is to strengthen the international position of start-ups in the Netherlands and persuade innovative foreign start-ups to establish their businesses here. Expatcenter launches new website

On Tuesday 9 December, the Expatcenter launched their new website for both corporate clients and expats. The website is part of Amsterdam Marketing’s new I amsterdam portal which was completely rebuilt to meet the changing demands of its users. is an important resource for visitors, businesses and residents of the city. The site currently attracts over 11 million visits annually and is continuing to grow exponentially.

The Expatcenter’s new corporate site includes updated news and procedural information for international employers.  The “Local” section of the portal has been tailor-made for expats and international residents in order to provide them with a comprehensive overview of all information needed to make the most of their stay in Amsterdam. 

The new portal was designed by Frog (Amsterdam) and built by Axendo (Leusden). In addition to the 11 million portal visits per year, I amsterdam is increasingly popular on social media with nearly 700,000 fans on Facebook and Twitter.
