Sinterklaas parade in Amsterdam 2018

Sinterklaas arrives in Amsterdam this weekend for his annual parade through the city. The procession takes place on a boat that winds through the River Amstel, concluding at the National Maritime Museum where Sint is met by Amsterdam’s mayor Femke Halsema. Following the boat parade, the guest of honour rides to Dam Square on a horse for the second part of the celebration, which is scheduled for 12:45 to 15:15.

Traffic and transport information

Several roads and bridges, including the IJ tunnel, will be temporarily closed during the parade, and trams and buses will be diverted or run on alternative routes between 11:00 and 17:00. Find more information and the parade routes on the City of Amsterdam’s website.
