Anti-Nazi protest in Amsterdam

The February Strike (februaristaking) was a major public strike in protest against the persecution of Jews and anti-Jewish measures in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands, held in 1941. The protest was started by dockworkers and public transport workers out of solidarity with their Jewish colleagues, and tens of thousands of Amsterdammers followed suit.

On its 75th anniversary, the protest is commemorated with a ceremony on the Jonas Daniël Meijerplein in Amsterdam, the location of the De Dokwerker statue, erected in memory of the dock workers that started the strike. The ceremony will begin at 16.30 and public figures will be in attendance. It is accompanied by a theatre performance, a photography exhibition, guided tours. In addition, all public transport in Amsterdam will stop running for one minute, starting at 11.00.
